The Father
Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father in me: if not, believe because of the works themselves ~John 14:11
Chapter Fourteen
CHAPTER 14: VERSE 1
JESUS
Let not your hearts be troubled:
believe on God, believe also on me.
VERSE 2
JESUS
In my Father’s house are many
mansions; if not so, I would have
told you; for I am going to prepare
a place for you.
VERSE 3
JESUS
And when I shall have gone and
prepared a place for you, I will
come again, and take you to myself,
that where I am you also may be.
VERSE 4
JESUS
And whither I go you know the way.
VERSE 5
Thomas says to him:
THOMAS
Lord, we know not whither thou
goest, and how know we the way?
VERSE 6
Jesus says to him:
JESUS
I am he way, and the truth, and the
life: no one comes to the Father
but through me.
VERSE 7
JESUS
If you have known me, you shall
know my Father also; and even now
you know him and lave seen him.
VERSE 8
Philip says to him:
PHILIP
Lord, show us the Father, and it is
enough for us.
VERSE 9
Jesus says to him:
JESUS
So long a time am I with you, and
hast thou not known me, Philip? He
that has seen me has seen the
Father: how sayest thou: show us
the Father?
VERSE 10
JESUS
Believest thou not that I am in the
Father and the Father is in me? The
words that I say to you I speak not
of myself: the Father, who abides
in me, does the works.
VERSE 11
JESUS
Believe me that I am in the Father
and the Father in me: if not,
believe because of the works
themselves.
VERSE 12
JESUS
Verily, verily, I say to you, he
that believes on me, the works that
I do he also shall do, and greater
works than these shall he do
because I go to the Father.
VERSE 13
JESUS
And whatever you shall ask in my
name, this will I do, that the
Father may be glorified in the Son.
VERSE 14
JESUS
If you ask any thing in my name. I
will do it.
VERSE 15
JESUS
If you love me, you will keep my
commandments.
VERSE 16
JESUS
And I will entreat the Father, and
anther Advocate will he give you,
that he may be with you for ever,
VERSE 17
JESUS
…the Spirit of truth, whom the
world cannot receive, because it
sees him not, neither knows him:
you know him, because he abides
with you and shall be in you.
VERSE 18
JESUS
I will not leave you orphans; I am
coming to you.
VERSE 19
JESUS
Yet a little while and the world
sees me no more; but you shall see
me; because I live and you shall
live.
VERSE 20
JESUS
In that day you shall know that I
am in my Father and you in me and I
in you.
VERSE 21
JESUS
He that has my commandments and
keeps them, he it is that loves me;
and he that loves me shall be loved
by my Father, and I will love him
and will manifest myself to him.
VERSE 22
Judas, not Iscariot, says to him:
JUDAS
Lord, and how is it that thou will
manifest thyself to us, and not to
the world?
VERSE 23
Jesus answered and said to him:
JESUS
If any one love me, he will keep my
word, and my Father will love him,
and we will come to him and make
our abode with him.
VERSE 24
JESUS
He that loves me not keeps not my
words; and the word that you hear
is not mine, but the Father’s
that sent me.
VERSE 25
JESUS
These things have I spoken to you
while abiding with you;
VERSE 26
JESUS
…but the Advocate, the Holy
Spirit whom the Father will send in
my name, he shall teach you all
things, and shall bring to your
remembrance all things that I have
said to you.
VERSE 27
JESUS
Peace I leave you, my peace I give
you: not as the world gives, give I
to you. Let not your heart be
troubled, neither let it be afraid.
VERSE 28
JESUS
You heard that I said to you: I go
away and come to you. If you loved
me, you would rejoice because I go
to the Father, for the Father is
greater than I.
VERSE 29
JESUS
And now I have told you before it
comes to pass, that when it comes
to pass you may believe.
VERSE 30
JESUS
No longer will I talk much with
you; for the prince of the world
comes, and has nothing in me,
VERSE 31
JESUS
…but that the world may know that
I love the Father, and as the Father
gave me commandment, so I do.
Arise, let us go hence.
