CHAPTER 10: VERSE 1

JESUS

Verily, verily, I say to you, he
that enters not through the door
into the sheepfold, but goes up by
some other way, he is a thief and a
robber:

VERSE 2

JESUS

…but he that enters through the
door is the shepherd of the sheep.

VERSE 3

JESUS

To him the porter opens, and the
sheep hear his voice, and he calls
his own sheep by name and leads
them out.

VERSE 4

JESUS

When he puts forth all of his own
sheep, he goes before them, and the
sheep follow him, because they know
his voice;

VERSE 5

JESUS

…but a stranger they will not
follow, but flee from him, because
they know not the voice of
strangers.

VERSE 6

This parable spoke Jesus to them; but they knew not what
things they were that he spoke to them.

VERSE 7

Jesus therefore said:

JESUS

Verily, verily, I say to you: I am
the door of the sheep.

VERSE 8

JESUS

All as many as have come are
thieves and robbers, but the sheep
did not hear them.

VERSE 9

JESUS

I am the door: through me if any
man enter in, he shall be saved,
and shall go in and out, and find
pasture.

VERSE 10

JESUS

The thief comes not but that he may
steal and kill and destroy: I have
come that they may have life, and
have it abundantly.

VERSE 11

JESUS

I am the good shepherd. The good
shepherd lays down his life for the
sheep:

VERSE 12

JESUS

…that is a hireling and not a
shepherd, to whom the sheep do not
belong, sees the wolf coming and
leaves the sheep and flees, and the
wolf seizes and scatters them,

VERSE 13

JESUS

…because he is a hireling, and
cares not for the sheep.

VERSE 14

JESUS

I am the good shepherd, and know
mine, and mine know me,

VERSE 15

JESUS

…as the Father knows me and I
know the Father; and I lay down my
life for the sheep.

VERSE 16

JESUS

And other sheep I have, which are
not of this fold: them also must I
bring, and they shall hear my
voice, and there shall be one fold,
one shepherd.

VERSE 17

JESUS

For this reason my Father loves me,
because I lay down my life, that I
may take it again.

VERSE 18

JESUS

No one takes it from me, but I lay
it down of myself. Authority have I
to lay it down, and authority have
I to take it again: this
commandment I received from my
Father.

VERSE 19

There arose again a division among the Jews because of these
words.

VERSE 20

Therefore many of them said:

JEWS

He has a demon and is mad; why hear
him?

VERSE 21

Others said:

OTHERS

These words are not of one that has
a demon: can a demon open the eyes
of the blind?

VERSE 22

But the feast of dedication was held in Jerusalem; it was
winter;

VERSE 23

…and Jesus was walking in the temple, in Solomon’s porch.

VERSE 24

The Jews therefore came around him and said to him:

JEWS

How long dost thou keep us in
suspense?
If thou art the
Christ, tell us plainly.

VERSE 25

Jesus answered:

JESUS

I have told you, and you do not
believe: the works that I do in my
Father’s name, these testify of me;

VERSE 26

JESUS

…but you believe not, because you
are not of my sheep.

VERSE 27

JESUS

My sheep hear my voice, and I know
them, and they follow me,

VERSE 28

JESUS

…and I give them eternal life,
and they shall never perish, and no
one shall snatch them out of my
hand.

VERSE 29

JESUS

What the Father has given to me is
greater than all, and no one can
snatch them out of the Father’s
hand.

VERSE 30

JESUS

I and the Father are one.

VERSE 31

Again the Jews took up stones to stone him.

VERSE 32

Jesus answered them:

JESUS

Many good works have I shown you
from the Father; for what one of
these do you stone me?

VERSE 33

The Jews answered him:

JEWS

For a good work we stone thee not,
but for blasphemy, and because
thou, being man, makest thyself
God.

VERSE 34

Jesus answered them:

JESUS

Is it not written in your law, I
said: You are gods?

VERSE 35

If he called them gods, to whom the word of God came, and
the Scripture cannot be broken:

VERSE 36

JESUS

…of him whom the Father
sanctified and sent into the world,
say you: Thou blasphemest; because
I said: I am the Son of God?

VERSE 37

JESUS

If I do not the works of my Father,
believe me not;

VERSE 38

JESUS

…but if I do, although you
believe not me, believe the works,
that you may know and acknowledge
that the Father is in me and I in
the Father.

VERSE 39

They then sought to take him, and he went forth from their
hand.

VERSE 40

And he went away again beyond the Jordan into the place
where John was first baptizing, and abode there.

VERSE 41

And many came to him and said:

MEN

John indeed did no sign, but all
things whatever John said of this
man were true.

VERSE 42

And many believed on him there.
